SKI INFORMATION

SKI LESSONS:

There is a good choice of ski schools in Meribel and several alternatives to ESF.

From personal experience we would recommend the following three ski schools. Both tend to have smaller classes than ESF (particularly during peak weeks) and the instructors are all English speaking. In peak holiday periods, please book ski lessons well in advance.

For children under 4 years old the only option is the ESF Piou Piou club which is very good but an English speaking instructor cannot be guaranteed.

If your child is too young to ski, please see our information below on childcare.

SKI HIRE:

There are many places in Brides-Les-Bains and Meribel to hire ski equipment and the choice really comes down to personal preference.

Brides Les Bains:

Intersport in Residence Cybele:
This Intersport ski hire shop is actually in the apartment complex making collecting and returning your skis very convenient. As owners we have always been pleased with the quality of skis equipment and skis and the competitive prices.

***** Discount *****  Our guests can receive an exclusive 40% discount at the Intersport store. Full details will be provided when you book.

If you have your own skis, they have agreed to provide our guests with an  ‘edge and wax’ for €10, which can be done overnight

Skis can also be pre-booked on line but the discount offered on line may vary depending on the week of your stay. If you use our discount there is no need to pre-book, just turn up at the shop and quote a code; which will be given when you book your apartment.

Pecision Ski:

We have also arranged a discount with Precision Ski in the centre of Brides les Bains. Guests can receive up to 50% discount on line and 40% in the shop. Full details will be provided when you book.

Meribel:
Another option is to hire skis in Meribel.  While this is usually more expensive than Brides it has the added convenience of the hire shops letting guests leave their skis and boots there overnight should you wish. The advantage of this is that you have a base for dumping equipment and normal shoes near to the slopes should you wish to spend a couple of hours walking round the lovely shops in normal shoes.
Ski 2000 is the shop that we would recommend based on personal experience.

Lift Passes:

Depending on your level of skiing you can choose to purchase either a Meribel Valley pass or a full Trois Valleys pass. All of the ski lift passes that include the Meribel valley also give you full free use of the Olympic Gondola from Brides to Meribel.

We would strongly suggest buying Lift Passes in advance.  The office selling lift passes at the bottom of the Gondola in Brides gets extremely busy on Sunday mornings (1st skiing day after Saturday changeover which is the norm across the whole resort).  Bearing in mind you need a pass to get up to Meribel in the 1st place pre-buying your ski pass will make your first day on the slopes much quicker -  unless you arrive early enough to purchase them on the afternoon of your arrival. There are two ways to purchase your lift passes before your holiday.

1. Buying on-line

Go to www.skipass-meribel.com

You can choose what passes you will need and they will be posted to you within about 2 weeks.

2. Buying through Extreme Ski Services

Extreme Ski Services is the company that we use to look after our apartment. They can arrange the purchase of your ski passes before your holiday (you will need to pay on credit card) and your passes will be waiting for you in the apartment. Full details will be provided when you book your holiday.

For information on current lift pass options and prices go to: www.les3vallees.com/en/ski-passes.259/

CHILDCARE:

For children who are too young to ski or for those that aren’t quite ready to ski all day, a private nanny is a good way for parents to maximise ski time whilst knowing that their little ones are having fun too. If you have more than one child or are travelling with another family, a private nanny can work out less expensive than the childcare clubs of some major ski companies.

We are very lucky that there are three private nanny companies in the 3 Vallees area that will be happy to provide either a full time or part time nanny to look after your children in the apartment and /or collect from ski school.  Sometimes they can provide evening babysitting as well. In peak season you will need to book very early.

If you do book a nanny, please let the nanny company know that we recommended them.

New Generation is a British run ski and snowboard school. They've been coaching in the Alps for 15 years and are based in Meribel as well as nine other resorts. All their lessons are in English, and all their groups are small and friendly. All of their instructors are fully qualified and they can teach all levels of skier or boarder. Whether you're a beginner or an off piste adventurer New Gen can help you progress and get the most out of your holiday.

They offer group lessons for adults from beginners to intermediates. For more experienced skiers or boarders they run technical clinics, helping you get off a plateau or fine tune your skills. Or for those looking to improve on the move they offer guided days with tips, both on or off piste. During school holidays they also offer group lessons for children and teenagers, with a focus on fun. Private lessons are also available. For beginners, Magic have their own dedicated nursery slope at the top of the Rhodos lift which is an ideal learning area for young children. Lessons start from age 4 years. The Kids Fun Factory which starts from age 6 usually runs for 4 hours a day with one or two days being full days. Their adult group and private lessons are excellent too.

Parallel Lines. This is a small British run ski school based in Meribel, which has been operating for around 12 years.  All the instructors are fully qualified BASI instructors with the full French equivalence. Again, we have used them for our own children and can highly recommend them for both adult and child lessons.

During the school holidays the ‘Kids Snow Safari’ lessons run for 4 hours a day. Outside of school holidays, the ‘Kids Snow Safari’ usually runs for 2 hours a day. Lessons start from age 4 upwards and for older children (ages 14- 17) they run special teen groups in the main school holidays.
